The best survival games of 2026 so far are led by Palworld and Valheim, which both left Early Access this year, along with Cairn, Subnautica 2, Scrap Mechanic, Windrose and Enshrouded. It's been a huge year for the genre, with several of the biggest survival games finally hitting 1.0.

Below is our full ranking of 17 open-world and crafting survival games, plus the best colony survival games, the best survival horror of 2026, and the survival games still coming before the end of the year. We update this list every month.

Last updated: October 26, 2026.

How did we rank the best survival games of 2026?

Most survival games launch on PC first and many are in Early Access, so critics often don't score them. Players do, so we ranked them by Steam reviews:

  • Released or fully launched (1.0) in 2026, tagged Survival on Steam, and an open-world, crafting or base-building survival game.
  • At least 1,000 Steam user reviews, ranked by the percentage of positive reviews, checked on October 26, 2026. Ties are broken by the number of reviews.
  • Where Metacritic has a critics' score, we show the Metascore too.
  • Early Access games are included and clearly marked, because in survival that's often where the best games are.

Also worth a look: extraction survival

Marathon (83% positive of 36,715 Steam reviews, Metascore 81) is Bungie's PvP extraction shooter on the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV. It's more shooter than survival game, but if you like the risk of losing everything you carry, it's one of the year's biggest launches. For PvE extraction instead, see our Gray Zone Warfare wipe guide.

Which survival games are still coming in 2026?
