Gray Zone Warfare Wipe Guide: What You Keep in 0.5, PvE vs PvEvP and How to Prepare
The Gray Zone Warfare 0.5 soft wipe explained: what you keep and lose, the one-time PvE vs PvEvP choice, multiple characters and how to prepare.
![]()
The Gray Zone Warfare wipe arrives with Update 0.5: Rogue Ops on October 22, 2026 (October 19 for Supporter Edition owners). It's the game's first soft wipe: you keep your progression, but your locker and money are gone. You'll also face one irreversible choice the first time you log in. This guide explains exactly what you keep and lose, how to pick between PvE and PvEvP, and what to do before and after the wipe.
Everything here comes from MADFINGER Games' official Rogue Ops devlogs. For the full list of new weapons and locations, see our Gray Zone Warfare 0.5 release date article.

Is there a wipe in Gray Zone Warfare 0.5?
Yes, but not a full one. MADFINGER chose a soft wipe so it can rebalance the in-game economy for Rogue Ops "while letting players retain their progression and avoid having to grind from scratch". It's the first wipe of any kind since the game launched in Early Access in April 2024.
What do you keep and lose in the Gray Zone Warfare wipe?
| Kept | Wiped |
| Completed tasks | Locker contents (all stored gear) |
| Rank | Money |
| Unlocked apparel | |
| Vendor levels | |
| Statistics | |
| Faction |
PvE or PvEvP: which should you choose?
When you first enter the Supporter Preview or the full 0.5 release, you must choose which game mode your existing character's progression transfers to. MADFINGER says this decision is irreversible, and your faction stays the same.
That matters more than before, because from 0.5 PvE and PvEvP have separate progression. Some things to weigh up:
- Where do you play most? Put your hard-earned rank and tasks where you'll actually use them.
- Who do you play with? Separate modes and factions per character make it easier to play with friends on different factions, so think about where your squad is going.
- You're not locked out of the other mode. You can make up to four characters, so you can start fresh in the mode you don't pick.
How do multiple characters work in Gray Zone Warfare?
Update 0.5 adds one of the most requested features: multiple characters. The rules are:
- Up to four characters per account at a time.
- Each character has its own game mode (PvE or PvEvP) and faction.
- You can't have two characters with the same mode and faction, to prevent exploits.
- You can delete one character per week.
MADFINGER says the split is meant to make playing with friends across factions easier, while "reinforcing gear fear" and supporting healthier economies in both modes.
What to do before the Gray Zone Warfare wipe
Since your locker and money are wiped either way, the last days of Update 0.4 are the time to play with your best kit:
- Use your stash. That rare gear and those stored stims won't carry over, so there's nothing to lose by bringing them out.
- Finish tasks you're close to completing. Completed tasks and rank are kept, so progress made now still counts after the wipe.
- Level up your vendors. Vendor levels survive the wipe too.
- Decide your mode with your squad before October 19 or 22, since the PvE/PvEvP choice is permanent.

What to do first after the 0.5 wipe
Learn the new health system
Healing is now per body part, not per wound. Several breaks in one leg need just one splint; two broken legs still need two. Medical items now differ more in quality: military-grade supplies treat faster and last longer, tourniquets can't go on the head or torso, and a surgical kit can fix broken bones, organ damage and bleeding at once. Blood bags and drinks are measured by volume, so you only use what you need.
Plan for crafting
Stims and Tracking Tags are no longer sold by vendors. They have to be crafted or found. MADFINGER's third devlog, coming this week, covers the new Hideout and crafting in detail, and we'll add it here.
Expect tougher AI
All AI enemies can now bandage themselves, and some factions throw grenades. AI is harder in Tier 3 and the new Tier 4 areas, and respawns faster around new activities. The suppression effect is also back.
Find Vulture in the vendor screen
The Vulture vendor is no longer tied to Combat Outposts and now sits on the normal vendor screen. The largest Combat Outposts are no longer capturable for now, and the rest have been spread more evenly to cut down PvP hotspots.
Pick the right ammo
SP and HP rounds now cause bigger wounds than FMJ and AP, and high-value loot spawns less often across the island, so money should feel more meaningful.
