Goo Deer, VML Studios' first-person horror gas station game, just got its biggest update: Goo Deer 2.0, out on October 31, adds online co-op for up to four players. You and up to three friends share one store and one wallet, work the shelves and register together, and hunt the fog-bound forest as a pack, reviving each other when someone goes down. The free update also adds a shoplifter, rebuilt leaderboards and 24 new languages, and the game is 34% off until November 14.

This is an Indie Spotlight, not a review: we haven't played it. Here's what the developer has shown and told us.

What is Goo Deer?

A dark first-person gas station management game set in a foggy world addicted to one strange drink: Goo Deer. You craft and sell different flavours, keep the shelves stocked, serve a growing line of customers and hire staff. The ingredients are outside, so you leave the safety of the station to hunt deer in the misty forest, while avoiding the dangerous creature moving through the fog.

How does Goo Deer co-op work?

  • Host or join: pick Multiplayer from the main menu, host a public or password-locked game, invite friends through Steam or use the server browser.
  • One store, one wallet: the crew is the staff, so stocking, pricing, the register, cleaning, fires, raids, the basement machines and the hunt are all down to you.
  • Down, not out: when you go down in the forest, your crew has a short time to revive you. If nobody makes it, you wake at the woods cabin without the gear you had on you.
  • Your gear is saved in your friend's world, and co-op worlds are kept separate from your solo save.
  • Share items and ammo, talk in crew chat (both work on controller), and earn ten new co-op achievements. VML says the forest fights back harder when you hunt as a crew.

What else is new in Goo Deer 2.0?

A shoplifter (not every customer plans to pay), rebuilt leaderboards, and full interface and subtitle translations into 24 new languages, for 25 in all.

How much is Goo Deer?

$9.99 normally, and $6.59 / £5.99 / €6.76 until November 14. It needs Windows 10 or later, an Intel i5-7400, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 or RTX 2060, and VML doesn't recommend xx50-class NVIDIA cards.
