The Star Wars: Galactic Racer review scores are in, and critics are thrilled. Fuse Games' run-based racer has an 87 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic, with 96% of critics recommending it, and an 88 on Metacritic for PS5. It's one of the best-reviewed games of October 2026. On Steam, players are a little more divided, mostly because of missing PC options such as key rebinding.

This is a roundup of what the critics and players say, not our own review: we haven't played it ourselves.

What is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Galactic Racer is a high-speed racer set just after Return of the Jedi, when the Empire has fallen and an unsanctioned racing circuit called the Galactic League takes off in the Outer Rim. You play as Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge against the league's ruthless champion, Kestar Bool, helped by the engineer Hibi.

The twist is its structure: it's a "runs-based" racer, borrowing from roguelites. You build your ride, push your luck across a run of races, and the greater the risk you take, the bigger the reward. You can pilot landspeeders, speeder bikes, new skim speeders and, of course, podracers. There are also Arcade and Scenario events, and online races for up to 12 players with cross-platform play.

What the critics loved

Critics are almost unanimous that the racing itself is fantastic:

  • GameSpot gave it 9/10, describing it as "those absolutely perfect 10 minutes expanded into a full game."
  • Eurogamer gave it 5/5, calling it "just wonderful stuff", and praised how beautiful its worlds look.
  • Giant Bomb also gave it 5/5, saying the campaign gives you real reasons to master each track.
  • Hobby Consolas (90/100) called it one of the best racing games in recent years and one of the best Star Wars games.
  • PC Gamer (76/100) thought the run-based structure works better than the open world of Burnout Paradise.

The sense of speed, the takedowns and the sound design come up again and again. It has also been nominated for Best Audio Design at the Golden Joystick Awards.

What the critics didn't like

The criticism is consistent, too:

  • Repetition. IGN (8/10) found it "fabulous looking and frantically fast" but felt it "gets a little repetitive" because you keep visiting the same few planets.
  • The roguelite structure. Some reviewers warn that runs can become punishing, which won't suit everyone who just wants to race.
  • Pacing and missing features. One French reviewer criticized on-foot sections that slow things down and "several missing features", and another wished podracing had its own full section.

What players are saying

On Steam, Galactic Racer is Very Positive overall (87%), but recent reviews are more mixed. Most of the complaints are about PC options rather than the racing. A fair cross-section, credited to the players who wrote them:

  • No key rebinding. zestyspacecommie sums up the biggest PC complaint in one line, criticizing a big-name PC release that doesn't let players rebind keys. Several players with disabilities say this makes the game unplayable for them.
  • No private lobbies or split-screen. CTezt enjoys it but wants local split-screen and custom lobbies to race friends on chosen maps.
  • The value question. TheSpexyBeast found it enjoyable but light on maps for the price, and suggests waiting for a sale.
  • The fans. Ciri calls it a mix of Wipeout, Burnout and MotorStorm, and is delighted to finally have a new Star Wars racer.
  • Even for non-racing fans. Brenntron doesn't usually like racing games but calls it the most fun they've had in a long time.

Fuse Games has released two hotfixes since launch (raising the minimum graphics driver, DLSS stability fixes and general stability), but neither added key rebinding.

Is Star Wars: Galactic Racer worth buying?

Going by the critics, yes: an 87 on OpenCritic puts it among the best racing games of the year, and the racing itself wins almost everyone over. If you play on PC with a keyboard and need custom controls, though, check whether rebinding has been added before buying. If you want a quick race with friends rather than a full run, the lack of quick play and private lobbies may frustrate you.

Critics’ consensus

Critics agree it's the best Star Wars racer in decades: brilliantly fast, great-sounding and smartly structured. The doubts are repetition, a punishing run structure and missing PC options.
