How to Get Moss in Hades 2: Location, Uses and Farming Tips

Hades 2 moss is found on the surface, in and around the City of Ephyra, the first region you reach when you take the path up from the Crossroads. You gather it by hand, so you don't need a gathering tool, but you do need to unlock the route to the surface first. Here's exactly where to find Moss, how to reach Ephyra, and what you'll spend it on.

Where is moss in Hades 2?

Moss grows in the City of Ephyra, the first area of the surface route. It shows up as small green patches on the ground: out in the streets, in courtyards and inside some of the houses, and its locations change from run to run because Ephyra's layout is randomized. You won't find Moss in the Underworld regions such as Erebus or Oceanus, so if you need it, you have to commit to a surface run.

Several guides also point out that Moss is common once you're in Ephyra, so a single surface run usually gets you a few. If you're short, it's worth clearing as many Ephyra rooms as you can before moving on.

How do you get to the surface in Hades 2?

You can't take the surface route straight away. Early on, the path out of the Crossroads is blocked, and Melinoë can't survive for long in the open air. You unlock it through incantations at the Cauldron in the Crossroads, which is why many players only start finding Moss after a few hours. Once the surface is open, take the path up and you'll arrive in Ephyra.

One of Moss's first big uses is Unraveling a Fateful Bond, the incantation that lifts the time limit on the surface so you can stay up there for the whole run. Getting your first couple of Moss is therefore part of opening up the surface properly.

How do you gather moss in Hades 2?

Walk up to a Moss patch and press the interact button. You don't need the Crescent Pick, Silver Spade, Tablet of Peace or Rod of Fishing, because Moss is gathered by hand. Each patch gives you one Moss.

To find patches faster, use the Reagent Sensing incantation: once it's cast, a silver light points you to any gatherable resources in the room, which saves you combing every corner of Ephyra.

What is moss used for in Hades 2?

Moss is mainly an incantation ingredient. In-game it's described as being used "with incantations involving strengthened connections". Its uses include:

• Unraveling a Fateful Bond: lets you stay on the surface for the whole run.
• Summoning a Colony of Bats.
• Quickening of Sentimental Value.
• Observance of Gaia's Secrets: a chance to gather extra resources when you collect them.
• Greater Removal of Rubbish.
• The Aspect of Persephone for the Argent Skull, unlocked at the Silver Pool.

The community wiki lists the full cost as 16 Moss across the incantations plus 1 for the Aspect, but quantities have changed between Early Access and v1.0, so check the Cauldron in-game for the current recipe before you farm.

Moss farming tips

• Plan surface runs: if you're working towards a Moss-heavy incantation, pick the surface route and clear as many Ephyra rooms as you can.
• Cast Reagent Sensing so you don't miss patches hidden inside houses.
• Grab every patch you see: Moss only grows in Ephyra, so stock up while you're there.
• Look into Observance of Gaia's Secrets: once it's done, you have a chance of picking up extra resources when you gather.

Is Hades 2 out on all platforms now?

Yes. Hades II left Early Access with its v1.0 launch on September 25, 2025 on PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store), Mac, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and Supergiant later brought it to PlayStation 5 and Xbox. It costs $29.99 / £24.99 on Steam. Supergiant says it became the best-reviewed game of 2025 on Metacritic and OpenCritic, and it won Best Game on Steam Deck in the Steam Awards.
