Phantom Line Prologue is out now and free on Steam. Antistatic Studios released it on 26 October 2026. It's the first playable chapter of Phantom Line, a 1–4 player co-op tactical shooter that mixes military combat with paranormal horror in a Europe tearing itself apart in a nuclear war.

The launch hasn't been smooth. Steam's own service problems stopped some players adding or starting the game on day one, and early Steam reviews are Mostly Negative, mainly over performance and co-op disconnects. Here's what's in the Prologue, the known launch issues, what players are saying, PC requirements and what's next for the full game.

Is Phantom Line: Prologue out now?

Yes. Antistatic Studios' "your first assignment is now live" post went up on Steam at 11:37am GMT (12:37pm CET) on 26 October 2026. The Prologue has its own Steam page, separate from the full game, so you can add it to your library and play without buying anything.

Antistatic describes it as "the first story mission" plus training and exploration of the introductory island. You can deploy alone or "form a squad of up to four Operators", and the studio's advice is to bring "people you trust to watch your back".

What are the Phantom Line: Prologue launch issues?

On launch afternoon, Antistatic posted a "Prologue Launch Update" about two problems:

  • Steam library and launch errors. Wider Steam service disruptions stopped some players adding the Prologue to their library or starting it, with the error "An error occurred while launching the game: Game configuration unavailable." Antistatic says this is outside its control and hopes Steam fixes it soon.
  • Performance. The studio has seen "various reports of inconsistent performance, low frame rates, and other gameplay issues". It says Phantom Line uses Unreal Engine 5 and its Lumen lighting, which brings "demanding hardware requirements", and that polishing and optimisation work continues on the full game.

If you hit problems, Antistatic asks players to report them on its Discord (or its QQ community). No patch had been released on launch day. The studio also stresses that "the Prologue is still a demo", not the finished game.

Is Phantom Line: Prologue free?

Yes. The Prologue is free to play on Steam, with no purchase needed. It's an introductory chapter that offers "a glimpse of the bigger experience" Antistatic is building, not the whole game. The full Phantom Line will be a separate release.

What is Phantom Line about?

You play an Operator in an elite special-ops unit that deals with anomalies, bizarre events hidden from the public, for a mysterious megacorp called Mortfield Industries. One of Mortfield's research sites in the Iron Corridor, an Eastern European region already torn by international tension and paranormal activity, has gone silent. You're sent to investigate just as nuclear war breaks out.

So your squad is fighting on two fronts: tears in space-time and monstrous entities on one side, and a full-blown human conflict on the other. Antistatic describes Phantom Line as a dedicated PvE game: no player-versus-player.

What's in Phantom Line: Prologue?

From Antistatic's launch announcement, the Prologue includes:

  • Operator training to learn the basics.
  • Your first story mission, deploying to an island to investigate anomalies for Mortfield.
  • Reaching the ship, your base of operations (the full game describes it as a nuclear-powered icebreaker).
  • A chance to explore some of the open-world systems on the introductory island and start working out what happened there.

The full open world and progression come later. Antistatic says movement, performance, UI and localisation are still being refined and asks players to send reports from this "deployment".

How does the H.U.S.K. system work?

H.U.S.K. is Mortfield's Operator Simulation Program, and it's the game's big idea. You transfer your consciousness between artificial bodies, so death is a setback, not the end. Antistatic suggests using bodies to scout dangerous zones, distract or decoy enemies, flank anomalies or even sacrifice a body to secure a target.

Containing anomalies gives you Quintessence, a substance you use to upgrade your bodies, abilities and gear. The studio's tagline sums it up: "to fight the anomalous horror you must turn into one yourself."

Can you play Phantom Line solo?

Yes. It's built for squads of 1–4 players, with online and LAN co-op listed on Steam, but Antistatic says you can go solo and use the H.U.S.K. system to manage the risk.

What changed since the March playtest?

Thousands of players joined Phantom Line's March playtest. In Devlog #4, "From March to Prologue", co-founder Maciej explains how that feedback shaped the Prologue, including the length of the tutorial, movement, combat and how clearly the game shows what's happening around you.

Phantom Line: Prologue PC requirements

MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10 64-bitWindows 10 64-bit
CPUIntel Core i5-8600Intel Core i7-9700K
RAM16GB32GB
GPUNVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GBNVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
Storage40GB40GB

DirectX 12 and a broadband connection are required. These specs are steep for a free chapter, and Antistatic itself points to Unreal Engine 5's demanding hardware needs. If your PC sits near the minimum, expect to lower the settings. The Steam page warns of intense violence, blood, horror themes and mature story themes, including conspiracy theories.

What are players saying about Phantom Line: Prologue?

Opinions are split, and on launch day the Steam reviews were Mostly Negative (31% of 200 positive). These are players' own views from their Steam reviews, not things we've tested:

  • Co-op disconnects. CandyButcher says the game "has potential", but "constant disconnections" in multiplayer make it frustrating with friends.
  • Performance and gunplay. Sapca11 found the gunplay weak, with poor audio and hit impact, and calls performance "Very Bad".
  • Buggy AI. Greg liked it as a first open demo, but lists broken AI, path-finding problems and enemies that spot you from far away one moment and miss you up close the next.
  • Runs fine for some. newbie cat expected their old graphics card to struggle but played on medium settings without problems, with "some minor bugs but nothing too serious".
  • Something different. koaloova called it "refreshing", despite connection trouble from Steam's issues, and is now waiting for the full game.

Several reviews also argue it should have been labelled a demo on the full game's page. We'll update this page when Antistatic releases its first patch.

Is Phantom Line coming to PS5 or Xbox?

No console versions have been announced. Both the Prologue and the full game are listed for PC on Steam only.

When does the full Phantom Line release?

In its launch-day posts, Antistatic says the full game is planned to enter Early Access in 2027. There's no exact date yet. The final game adds a full open world in the Iron Corridor with dynamic events and weather, hostile factions, base upgrades on your icebreaker, crafting, recruiting crew and deeper progression.

"The Prologue isn't the final shape of the game," the studio says, and feedback from this launch will shape what comes next. You can wishlist Phantom Line on Steam to follow it.
