Acer's first Predator gaming handheld runs Windows 11 on Intel's new Arc G3 and Arc G3 Extreme processors, has an 8-inch 120Hz screen and up to an 80Wh battery, and goes up against the ROG Xbox Ally X20, which also launches this week.

What's special about the Predator Atlas 8?
- First metal fan in a handheld: Acer says its 89-blade Predator AeroBlade fan, just 0.1mm thick per blade, is the first metal fan in a handheld and gives up to 10% more airflow than a plastic fan.
- Two trigger modes: a switch flips the triggers between a micro-switch "instant click" for shooters and Hall-effect analogue travel for racing and flight games.
- PredatorSense on a handheld: the first time Acer's laptop control app has come to a handheld, with live monitoring, performance modes and RGB control.
- Xbox mode: the Windows 11 Xbox mode boots straight into a console-style interface with Game Pass, and you can link Steam, Epic and other launchers.
- Dual Thunderbolt 4: for docking, external displays and accessories.
Predator Atlas 8 vs ROG Xbox Ally X20
The Atlas 8's most obvious rival is the ROG Xbox Ally X20, which launches on 15 October at $1,299.99 in the US. In the UK, the ASUS eShop lists the Ally X20 at £1,299.99. That puts the £1,299.99 Atlas 8 Arc G3 Extreme model at the same price, while the £999.99 Arc G3 model undercuts it. Both run Windows 11 with Xbox mode. Proper performance comparisons will have to wait for reviews.
Acer UK's offers page also lists a smaller Predator Atlas 7 for pre-order "coming soon", from £899.99 with Arc G3 or £1,249.99 with Arc G3 Extreme. Acer hasn't published full Atlas 7 specs yet.
