Mortuus comes out on 11 January 2027 on Steam. It's a round-based zombies FPS for 1 to 4 players from developer Hamuno, and if that sounds familiar, that's the point: survive the round, spend your points, buy perks, hit the mystery box. The twist is that every run builds a new procedurally generated map, so the doors, perk machines, mystery box and way out are never where they were last time. A free demo is on Steam.

When is the Mortuus release date?

11 January 2027, according to its Steam page. There's no launch time or price yet.

How does Mortuus work?

The rules are classic round-based zombies. Buy doors and clear debris to open up the map, find the power switch, hit the mystery box or buy a gun off the wall, and buy perks from machines around the map. Two systems are new:

  • Gun Ascension: feed your gun to the altar and choose how it gets stronger, as many times as you can afford.
  • Upgrade draft: after every round, pick one upgrade from a draft, so each run builds differently.

Is the Mortuus map different every time?

Yes. Rooms, corridors, courtyards and dead ends are rebuilt every run, in daylight or at night, in clear weather or a storm. As Hamuno puts it: "You learn the game, not the map."

What zombies are in Mortuus?

From the early rounds, some zombies chase you, some cut you off and some go around. Later come special enemies, including the hulking Juggernaut, the Lope, which runs on its arms, and the Skitter, which comes across the ceiling, plus boss fights. Dismemberment is location-based: shoot the legs and they crawl, and big guns punch straight through.

Does Mortuus have co-op?

Yes, online co-op for up to four players, or play solo. The Steam page also lists full controller support, including PlayStation pads, and nine languages with full audio.

What are the Mortuus PC requirements?

It's light: Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD FX-6300, 6 GB of RAM, a GTX 750 Ti, Radeon R7 260X or Intel Iris Xe (2 GB VRAM) and 2 GB of storage. It's also coming to Mac and Linux.
