How long is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy? According to developer Asobo Studio, it takes approximately 20 hours to complete. How long is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy to beat?
Asobo's official answer, from the game's FAQ, is that "Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy can be completed in approximately 20 hours." That's a little longer than A Plague Tale: Innocence and in the same ballpark as Requiem.
Real playthroughs vary. Steam player Dansgaming says it took them "about 10 hours on Normal Difficulty," and several reviewers describe it as refreshingly short compared to today's 60-hour epics. If you stop to explore every ruin, read your notebook, take photos and collect everything, expect something much closer to Asobo's 20 hours. We played it right through to the end and, honestly, it still felt over too soon.
How many chapters are in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy?
Resonance is a linear, story-driven game split into numbered chapters, like the earlier Plague Tale games. Asobo hasn't published an official chapter count, but its 6 October patch notes mention fixes in chapters up to Chapter XIV, including a bug "in chapter XIV in which the book was not usable after credits." So there are at least 14.
The chapters move between three main settings: a plunderers' camp in the lagoons near Venice, Venice itself at carnival time, and the Minotaur's Island, where most of the game happens. Some chapters also take you back to the Minoan era as the hero Theseus.
What are the difficulty modes in Resonance?

Resonance has five difficulty levels, and you can change between them at any time during the game. Asobo's accessibility blog lists them as:
- Story (called Narrative mode in Asobo's blog): focused on exploration and story, with an auto-parry and dodge system in combat.
- Easy
- Normal: "the best balance between exploration and challenge," according to Asobo.
- Hard
- Very Hard (called Nightmare in the blog): "enemies at the peak of aggressiveness and maximum resistance."
Difficulty mainly affects the combat. If you mostly want the story and the scenery, Story mode is a perfectly good way to play. If you want the fights to really test your parries, Very Hard is a serious challenge.
Can you make Resonance easier?
Yes, a lot easier. Resonance has a dedicated Accessibility tab with options Asobo built with the help of Cap Game and Game Accessibility Hub. The ones that affect how hard the game is include:
- Invincible mode, which you can switch on or off
- Hint frequency: off, or three different timings
- Automatic quick interactions and hold or toggle options for sprint, walk and the sphere
- Automation of the grappling hook
- Aim assist (Low or Standard)
- No quick-time events anywhere in the game
There's also a High Contrast mode that highlights things you can interact with, colorblind presets you can preview in real time, subtitle options, a steady camera, motion blur settings and a switch that removes blood completely.
Is Resonance shorter than Requiem?
On Asobo's numbers, it's in the same range. The bigger difference is pace: Resonance swaps the slow stealth of the first two games for faster melee combat, exploration and light puzzles, so it can feel quicker even when it isn't shorter. It's also a standalone story, so you don't need to put 30+ hours into Innocence and Requiem first.

Is Resonance worth it for its length?
We think so. At £43.99 / $49.99 on Steam, or included with Game Pass Ultimate, you get a beautiful, tightly told story with very little filler. Read our full Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy review for our verdict.
