The latest Dragonwilds update, patch 1.0.0.8, went live today, 8 October 2026, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It fixes the bug that was making world saves disappear in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. There's a catch, though: worlds that have already vanished won't come back until the bigger 1.0.1 update, which Jagex says is coming next week.

Here's everything in the Dragonwilds 1.0.0.8 patch notes, why saves have been disappearing since the 1.0 launch, and what's coming in 1.0.1.

Dragonwilds 1.0.0.8 patch notes

This Dragonwilds update is a small, targeted hotfix rather than a content patch. According to Jagex's official patch notes, it includes:

  • Fixed: an issue that could cause world saves to disappear under certain conditions.
  • Known issue: worlds that disappeared before this patch still won't be visible until 1.0.1.
  • Dedicated servers: servers need to be restarted to pick up the hotfix.
  • Server updates: SteamCMD updates for dedicated servers are currently being rate-limited. Jagex says it's working with its hosting partner Shockbyte on a more permanent fix.

Jagex also apologised to players, saying it understands "the great pride we all take in our worlds, our builds and progress", and thanked the community for its patience.

Why have Dragonwilds world saves been disappearing?

RuneScape: Dragonwilds left Early Access and launched in full on 15 September 2026, arriving on PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time alongside PC. Since launch, some players have found their characters corrupted or their worlds missing from the world list entirely.

In a dedicated update on save corruption, Jagex explained that saves could become unreadable when players disconnected mid-game or put their console into sleep mode, and that editing a character's appearance was the main trigger. It estimated that around a thousand players on consoles and PC Game Pass were affected during the launch window, and it temporarily disabled the Edit Appearance feature to stop more saves breaking.

The studio has released a string of hotfixes since then. Patch 1.0.0.4 tackled saves corrupting on exit, 1.0.0.5 fixed a wide range of multiplayer and save issues, 1.0.0.6 restored Epic Games Store crossplay and partly addressed invisible worlds, and 1.0.0.7 fixed multiplayer progress not carrying over between worlds. Today's Dragonwilds update closes off the bug that was making worlds disappear in the first place.

When is the Dragonwilds 1.0.1 update?

Jagex says the next Dragonwilds update, version 1.0.1, is coming next week, in mid-October. It's a much bigger release than today's hotfix, with a range of content updates and fixes, and it's the one players who lost progress are waiting for:

  • Missing worlds: world saves that disappeared should, Jagex hopes, be restored.
  • Corrupted characters: affected characters will be able to rejoin their worlds again.
  • Compensation: players who lost progress will receive items and skill levels. Jagex has said replacement characters will get Tier 4 equipment, pre-levelled skills and vital gear, while keeping their name, appearance and private chest access.

Jagex hasn't confirmed an exact date for 1.0.1 yet, so we'll update this article when it's announced.

What should Dragonwilds players do now?

  • Install 1.0.0.8 on your platform to stop any more worlds disappearing.
  • Restart dedicated servers so they pick up the hotfix. If yours hasn't updated, the SteamCMD rate limit may be the reason, so try again later.
  • Don't delete a missing world or start over in its place just yet, as Jagex expects 1.0.1 to bring lost worlds back.
  • Leave Edit Appearance alone while the feature is disabled.
  • Report bugs through the official RuneScape: Dragonwilds Discord, where the team is collecting reports.

What's next for RuneScape: Dragonwilds?

Beyond 1.0.1, Jagex has a busy roadmap planned, which it revealed at RuneFest 2026:

  • Luminance (December 2026): a free update that adds the Prayer skill, a magical Lyre for reaching hidden areas through Fairy Rings, elven cosmetics and a Prifddinas-style building kit.
  • Song of Rebellion (first half of 2027): the first chapter of the Blood Crystal Saga, adding the Hunter skill, new creatures and the corrupted city of Ailddinas.
  • Official modding (first half of 2027): creation tools and an in-game mod browser on all platforms, alongside Secure Servers and Leaderboards.
  • Crown of Night: the second Blood Crystal Saga chapter, with legendary weapons like the Dark Bow and Ivandis Flail. No date yet.

Is RuneScape: Dragonwilds worth playing right now?

Dragonwilds is a co-op survival crafting game set in the RuneScape world, where you build a base, level skills, and team up with friends to take on bosses and dragons. It costs £24.99 / $29.99 on Steam and is also available through PC Game Pass.

The save problems have been a frustrating start to the full release, but with this Dragonwilds update stopping new worlds from disappearing and 1.0.1 aiming to restore the rest, it's a good time to jump in. If you lost a world, it's worth holding on until next week's patch.
