How To Beat The Fire Giant in Elden Ring
Your journey in Elden Ring will be filled with tough encounters. One battle, in particular, takes you to the frozen wastelands of the north, where you face off against a huge opponent that can crush you in a single blow. Here's our guide on How To Beat The Fire Giant in Elden Ring.
Preparing for the Battle
Level and Equipment Recommendations
The Elden Ring Fire Giant boss fight takes place in the Mountaintops of the Giants, a late-game area. We recommend being level 115 or higher, with at least 40 points in Vigor. Ideally, you should aim for 60 Vigor. Equip talismans that increase your HP, such as the Crimson Amber Medallion and Erdtree's Favor.
Fire Resistance
The Elden Ring Fire Giant has several fire-based abilities. Equip the Flamedrake Talisman or higher-tier variants. Spells like Flame Fortification or Flame Protect Me and the Fireproof Dried Liver consumable is extremely useful.
First Phase of the Fight
Initial Approach
The start of the Elden Ring Fire Giant boss fight is the most pivotal moment. The arena is vast, and this behemoth is far in the distance. Ride Torrent to close the gap but beware of the boss' plate sweep attack. Double-jump on Torrent to avoid taking damage.
Combat Strategy
Fight the Fire Giant on foot. Its melee/physical damage can kill Torrent, and you don't want to waste flasks reviving your horse. Focus on its left leg, hitting it continuously until the giant kneels in anguish. Watch for these attacks:
- Metal Plate Smash: Roll to avoid the crushing blow.
- Rolling Reposition: Close the gap quickly.
- Large Fireball: Let it pulse close to you, then run away before it detonates.
Second Phase of the Fight
Transition
A cutscene at roughly 50% HP will show the Fire Giant breaking off its leg. It becomes less mobile but gains new abilities.
New Abilities
- Double Slow-Moving Fireballs: Approach them, then run away to trigger the explosion.
- Fast-Moving Fireballs: Launched in a straight line.
- Burning Rocks: Explode upon hitting the ground.
- Fire Pillars: Erupt around the giant as it kneels.
Strategy for Second Phase
Mount Torrent and stay behind the giant. Use your melee weapon to strike its right leg. Alternatively, ranged combat or spellcasting should focus on the Fire Giant's hands, the weak spots. Use trees or rocks as cover but beware if they get destroyed. If the boss gets staggered, run up to deal critical damage to its eye.
Rewards for Defeating the Fire Giant
Defeating this boss nets you the Remembrance of the Fire Giant. This can be exchanged with Enia at the Roundtable Hold for:
- Giant's Red Braid: A whip with the skill Flame Dance.
- Burn O Flame: An incantation similar to the Fire Giant's fire pillars.
That does it for our guide on How To Beat The Fire Giant in Elden Ring. From here on out, you'll have another chance to meet with Melina, which leads to the closing stages of the base game's campaign.
