7 Days to Die 3.4 is out now on Steam's experimental branch. The Fun Pimps released V3.4.0 EXP on 23 October 2026, and the headline feature is one players have wanted for years: a search bar and category filters for your backpack and every container. Traders can now also recover lost or stuck drones.

It's a smaller update than 3.0 Dead Hot Summer, but it fixes some of the most annoying problems left over from 3.3's Bigger Backpack system, including the hotbar selling bug and broken Easy Anti-Cheat on Mac.

What's new in 7 Days to Die 3.4?

The Fun Pimps describe 3.4 as a quality-of-life drop. There are two new features:

  • Search and filters for backpack and containers. A new search bar in your backpack and in containers lets you type an item's name, or filter by category, to find it quickly. With 3.3's bigger backpacks offering up to 96 slots, this was badly needed.
  • Recover lost drones from traders. If your drone gets stuck or goes missing, you can now ask a trader to recover it for you instead of losing it for good.

The developer also updated several items for 3.3's backpack capacity changes: the Night Stalker Vol. 4 magazine, Steroids, Chicken Nuggets and the completed Fireman's Almanac set now work properly with the new inventory system.

What does 7 Days to Die 3.4 fix?

The V3.4.0 changelog lists these fixes:

  • In multiplayer, the "boosted" icon no longer shows on items that aren't actually boosted.
  • You can sell the 10th item from your hotbar again (a known issue since 3.3).
  • The game launches again on macOS with Easy Anti-Cheat enabled.
  • An error when turning in the White River quest has been fixed.
  • Vehicle inventory no longer scrolls when it shouldn't, and the scrollbar now accounts for installed storage mods.
  • Shift + Left Click now moves items into dropped zombie bags and airdrops without errors.
  • Missing block backgrounds in the scrollable backpack are back.
  • Drones no longer circle the player when placed.
  • A rare issue where linking a Discord account could lock you out of logging in has been fixed.
  • The b6 update fixed zombie colour variants not showing up.

One known issue is still listed: locked slots reset after you close your inventory.

How do you play the 7 Days to Die 3.4 experimental?

The experimental build is on Steam only. To opt in:

  1. Right-click 7 Days to Die in your Steam library.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Open the Game Versions & Betas tab.
  4. Choose latest_experimental from the drop-down and let the game update.

Experimental builds can have bugs, so back up your saves first. If you play on a dedicated server, the server needs to be on the same branch as you.

When is the 7 Days to Die 3.4 stable release?

The Fun Pimps haven't given a date yet. Recent updates give a rough idea of the pace: 3.2 spent a week in experimental (19 August to 26), while 3.3 took around two weeks (24 September to 5 October). Treat that as a pattern, not a promise.

Is 7 Days to Die 3.4 coming to PS5 and Xbox?

The experimental branch is PC only. Console players get updates once they're stable and through certification, and The Fun Pimps haven't announced a console date for 3.4.

Why are 7 Days to Die updates smaller now?

In the 3.2 notes, The Fun Pimps explained that a separate team now works on smaller updates like 3.1, 3.2 and beyond, with bug fixes, quality-of-life changes and cosmetics delivered between major releases. The developer says this team doesn't take resources away from the next major version: "work on v4.0 continues in parallel and is moving along well". There's no date for 4.0 yet.

That's why 2026 has brought a steady run of updates: 3.0 Dead Hot Summer in June, 3.1 Henpocalypse (chickens) in July, 3.2 with honking to open trader doors in August, 3.3 Bigger Backpacks in October, and now 3.4.

What did 7 Days to Die 3.3 change about backpacks?

Because 3.4 builds on it, here's a quick recap. 3.3 introduced an 8x6 inventory grid: 4 rows of free slots and 2 rows of encumbered slots, 48 in total. Backpacks come in Small, Medium and Large sizes with 6 quality levels each, and equipping one in the new backpack slot adds encumbrance slots up to a total of 96 (an 8x12 grid). The Pack Mule perk and Armor Pocket Mods remove the encumbrance.
