The Witcher 4 Full Production Begins Soon
The news has finally been received and The Witcher 4 Full Production Begins Soon. The much-anticipated next installment in The Witcher series, currently known under the codename "Polaris," is moving into full production "very soon." Fans of the franchise have eagerly awaited any news about the upcoming game, and CD Projekt has finally provided some concrete details.
Team Growth and Production Readiness
During CD Projekt's latest earnings call, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed that The Witcher 4 is set to enter full production soon. The development team, which grew from 407 members in April 2024 to 410 in July 2024, now constitutes the majority of the company’s overall staff. This increase in team size signals that the game is ready to advance to the next stage of its development.
Nowakowski stated, “The Polaris team is maintaining the right scale to enter the production stage very soon.” This update has excited many fans who have been eagerly following the game's development.
Expected Release Date and Teasers
When Polaris was first announced in October 2022, CD Projekt stated that the game wouldn't be released until 2025 at the earliest. However, as time passes and 2025 approaches, it's becoming increasingly uncertain whether the game will meet this timeline. Despite the uncertainty, the prospect of The Witcher 4 moving into full production is a significant step forward.
So far, details about The Witcher 4 have been scarce. However, one intriguing revelation comes from Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt of Rivia, who hinted that Geralt will appear in Polaris, although not as the main character. This aligns with CD Projekt's earlier statements that Geralt's saga has concluded, and a new protagonist will likely take center stage.
Fan Theories and Speculation
CD Projekt has released only a single teaser image for Polaris, but this has not stopped fans from speculating. The image featured a medallion of a lynx, a symbol associated with a new Witcher school not previously mentioned in the franchise’s lore. Fans are speculating that Ciri, a beloved character from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, might be the protagonist of the new game. The “true” ending of The Witcher 3 suggests that Ciri becomes a witcher, and the lynx medallion could be a nod to her future role.
CD Projekt's Broader Ambitions
Beyond Polaris, CD Projekt has several other projects in the works. The company is establishing a new studio in the U.S. to develop a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion. Additionally, within The Witcher universe, a multiplayer game is being developed by one of CD Projekt’s subsidiary studios, and partner studio Fool's Theory is working on a remake of the original The Witcher game.
With The Witcher 4 full production beginning soon we now know the next chapter in this iconic series is one step closer to becoming a reality. Fans of the franchise can look forward to more updates as the game progresses through its development stages.
