Netflix Restructures Film Division and Lays Off 15 People

Netflix has recently announced layoffs as part of a major restructuring effort. According to Deadline, approximately 15 employees within the company's film division are being let go.

This restructuring comes shortly after Dan Lin assumed the role of head of Netflix's film division, succeeding Scott Stuber who left to start his own company.

As part of the new organizational structure, Netflix's movie division will be split into genre-specific units, each led by a dedicated executive. Ori Marmur will oversee action, fantasy, horror, and sci-fi films. Kira Goldberg will head thrillers, drama, and family films. Niija Kuykendall will lead young adult, holiday, and faith-based movies. Jason Young will manage the comedy and romantic comedy team within Netflix. Deadline reported these changes have been in development over the past month.

Netflix employs more than 10,000 individuals across its film, television, technology, and gaming divisions. Gaming is one of Netflix's newest business areas and has recently made several key executive hires, including former Halo leader Joe Staten to develop new multiplatform intellectual properties.

Layoffs have impacted many media, technology, and gaming companies in 2024. The video game industry has seen over 8,000 layoffs so far this year, while semiconductor company Intel recently announced workforce reductions as well.
