Nasdara isn’t Chernarus. The new map in DayZ Badlands<\/strong>, out now since 15 October 2026, is the largest terrain Bohemia has ever made for DayZ, with very little water, harsh sun, sandstorms and a whole set of new systems. This DayZ Badlands guide<\/strong> gathers the 13 most useful things to know before you spawn in, so your first life lasts longer than your last one.<\/p>\n

Update 1.30 launched with Badlands and is a full wipe on all platforms<\/strong>, so everyone is starting from nothing. The tips below come from Bohemia’s official Badlands dev blogs, the Update 1.30 notes and the launch announcement. We’ll keep adding to this guide as players map out Nasdara.<\/p>\n

1. How do you get water in DayZ Badlands?<\/h2>\n

Water is the number one problem. Bohemia says Nasdara has very little standing water, thanks to a drought, a damaged reservoir and years of neglect, so you’ll rely on wells, irrigation tunnels and other traditional sources used in dry regions. And you need water for more than drinking: Bohemia’s launch post says it’s also how you cool down<\/strong> and rinse sand from your eyes<\/strong> after a sandstorm. Ignore your thirst and the consequences build up, from sweating all the way to death.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/strong> carry every bottle and canteen you can, drink whenever you find safe water, and plan routes around water rather than loot.<\/p>\n

2. Restore wells and they help everyone<\/h2>\n

Some wells work, but others need rebuilding before they give drinking water, and Nasdara’s irrigation tunnels can be rebuilt too. Bohemia’s own launch example is to “rebuild a well with a stranger for the benefit of the server”. Fixing a well near your base is one of the best long-term investments on a server, and it helps every survivor who passes by.<\/p>\n

3. Stay out of the sun, and cover up<\/h2>\n

For the first time, direct sunlight affects your character’s stats<\/strong>, and overexposure can lead to heatstroke<\/strong>, one of Badlands’ two new medical threats. Keep your body covered, rest in the shade (palm trees count), and don’t sprint across open ground at midday. Nights swing the other way: Bohemia says temperatures drop sharply after dark, though not to freezing, so keep a warmer layer handy.<\/p>\n

4. What should you wear in DayZ Badlands?<\/h2>\n

Look for the new regional clothing: Kameez tunics, Shalwar trousers, sandals, vests, keffiyehs, turbans, pakol hats, face wraps and dust goggles. In Nasdara, items like glasses, goggles and face coverings aren’t just cosmetic: Bohemia says protecting your eyes and airways from dust matters as much as staying hydrated.<\/p>\n

There’s a trade-off. Lighter clothing usually has less inventory space<\/strong> than heavy jackets and military gear, so you’ll need to pack more carefully and decide what’s worth carrying.<\/p>\n

5. Sandstorms and dust can give you away<\/h2>\n

Gusts of wind can build into full sandstorms, and dust is a health risk as well as a nuisance: silicosis<\/strong> is Badlands’ other new medical threat. Keep goggles and a face covering on you, and save some water to rinse your eyes. Dust also works against you in other ways: vehicles kick up a big dust cloud on dusty ground, which other players can spot from a distance, and walking on upper floors makes floors creak and dust fall from the ceiling, which can alert anyone below. The good news is that it works both ways, so listen out.<\/p>\n

6. How does rebuilding work in DayZ Badlands?<\/h2>\n

Instead of only building fences in a field, you can rebuild or barricade broken houses<\/strong>. Bohemia says there are over 5,000 rebuildable houses, in about 20 variants, and you’ll usually spot them when you open your inventory indoors. Mud and stone houses are only a cosmetic difference: how strong your base is depends on the materials you use.<\/p>\n
